SPM Organic Farm

About Our Organic Certified Coconut Farm

Our farm (SPM Organic Farm) has practiced organic farming for more than 20 years in Periyakulam, near Theni. View on Google Maps →

The coconuts used for our oil are grown on our own farm. The oil is produced using a traditional wood-churn cold pressed process. After pressing, the oil is allowed to settle naturally without filtration. We are the farmers, producers, and sellers, so there are no middlemen involved.

Our Farm Story

Our coconut farm is a family-managed organic farm. For many years we have focused on growing coconuts using natural farming methods.

The goal of the farm has always been simple:

  • grow coconuts naturally
  • maintain healthy soil
  • produce honest coconut oil

Over time, the farm expanded its work from cultivation to oil production. Today the farm manages the full journey of coconut oil.

Organic certification

Certified Organic Farm

Our farm is a certified organic farm. The certification confirms that the farm follows approved organic farming standards.

Certification verifies several aspects of the farm

  • cultivation practices
  • soil management
  • use of organic inputs
  • compliance with organic standards

While our farm adopted organic practices many years ago, formal certification was obtained later to validate these practices.

Certification helps provide additional transparency and trust.

From Coconut Tree to Coconut Oil

Coconut oil production begins on the farm itself. Coconuts grow on the coconut palm tree. When the coconuts mature, they are harvested and prepared for oil extraction.

Basic production steps

  • Coconut harvest
  • Coconut shell opening
  • Coconut meat removal
  • Drying to prepare copra
  • Oil extraction
  • Natural settlement

This process ensures that the oil comes directly from farm-grown coconuts.

Copra Preparation

Copra is dried coconut meat. On our farm, the drying process is done using a solar dryer system, which allows the coconut meat to dry in a controlled and hygienic environment.

Benefits

  • protection from dust
  • protection from rain
  • controlled drying
  • better hygiene

Copra preparation helps reduce moisture, preserve the coconut, and make oil extraction easier. The copra becomes the raw material for the oil extraction stage.

Wood-Churn Cold Press Process

The oil is extracted using a traditional wood-churn cold press method. Dried coconut (copra) is pressed mechanically inside a wooden churn.

Key features of this method

  • slow mechanical pressing
  • no chemical extraction
  • minimal heat generation
  • traditional oil extraction technique

This method produces cold pressed coconut oil while preserving the natural properties of the coconut.

Natural Settlement (No Filtration)

After pressing, the oil is not filtered using industrial filters. Instead, the oil is allowed to settle naturally.

During settlement

  • natural particles settle at the bottom
  • the oil becomes clear over time
  • the oil is collected from the top

This natural settlement process avoids excessive processing.

Transparency

Why the Source of Coconut Oil Matters

The source of coconut oil plays an important role in product quality.

When the source of coconuts is known, the production process becomes transparent.

Knowing the source helps people understand:

  • where the coconuts are grown
  • how the oil is produced
  • who manages the production process

Farm-based production helps maintain traceability and transparency.
